City Ordinances

City Hall maintains all the City Ordinances and copies may be obtained at 207 Main St. SW, during normal business hours.  The police department is responsible for enforcing the City Ordinances in Ronan.  Below are updated Ordinances passed by the City Council.

ORDINANCE NO. 2014-01

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 2012-01 WHICH ORDINANCE AMENDED CHAPTER 7-1-700 OF THE RONAN MUNICIPAL CODE TO ENHANCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COMMUNITY UPKEEP EFFORTS : ORDINANCE-NO-2014-01

ORDINANCE NO.  2014-02

AN ORDINANCE TO IMPLEMENT RESTRICTIONS ON THE DAYS AND HOURS FIREWORKS CAN BE SET OFF IN THE CITY LIMITS: Fireworks Ordinance 

4-1-601 – Drug Fee and Fund – A person being convicted of or pleading guilty to an misdemeanor offense of criminal possession of a dangerous drug,  or criminal possession of drug paraphernalia,  the Ronan City Judge shall assess a sum of money, not less than $150.00 for each case.  Which shall be deposited in the City Drug Fund.

4-1-602 – Police Technology Fee and Fund – A police technology fee shall be established in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per violation.   The monies from the police technology fund shall be used for the sole purpose of funding the acquisition, operation, maintenance, maintenance agreements, repair and replacement of police technology advances and upgrades, of equipment and software related to the investigation, arrest and conviction or persons violating the laws of the State of Montana as codified by the Montana Code Annotated and the laws of the City of Ronan, Montana.

7-1-703 – Community Upkeep.  No person shall maintain a public nuisance by allowing rubble, debris, junk, vegetation, or refuse to accumulate on property owned by him, or under his control, resulting in conditions that are injurious to health, indecent, offensive to the senses, a fire hazard or obstructive of the free use of property so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life, or as more particularly set forth in this Chapter.  Real property owners shall be responsible to maintain the same from the centerline of the alley, if any, to the centerline of the adjoin right of way.

8-1-307 – Method of Street Parking.  No vehicle may make a left turn to park on the opposite side of the street.  This does not apply to making a left turn into a residential driveway to park or a driveway into a commercial parking lot.

8-1-308 – No Parking on Main Street SW between 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM.

8-1-315 A – Obedience to Speed Limits.

8-1-316 B – Exhibition Driving Prohibited.

8-1-317 – No Parking along Route of an Established Community Parade 30 minutes prior to the parade.   “Established Community Parade” means a parade that has occurred annually for at least three (3) years within the city and includes the following annual parades; St. Patrick’s Day, Homecoming, Ronan Pioneer Days, and Parade of Lights.

8-1-318 D – Abandoned, Wrecked, Junk or Dismantled Vehicles.  All abandoned and junk motor vehicles, whether on public property or on private property in view of the general public, are declared to be a nuisance.

8-1-319  – Parking and Open Storage Restrictions.  The purpose of this parking and open storage ordinance is to provide regulation for the parking and storage of recreational vehicles, camper enclosures, trailers, snowmobiles, boats and other watercraft in the City of Ronan. These regulations are intended to promote the public health, safety and welfare by reducing traffic hazards; maintain unobstructed access to public sidewalks, thoroughfares and rights-of-way, maintain sanitation standards; and by preserving the character of the neighborhood of the community.

10-1-201 – Curfew It is unlawful for persons under the age of 18 to be in, or upon, or to loiter upon or frequent the streets, alley, or sidewalks within the City limits between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM except on days of Friday and Saturday, when the time shall be extended to the hours of 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM.

10-1-302 A – Public Drinking or Display of Open Alcoholic Beverages Prohibited.  Public drinking and public display and exhibition of beer or liquor as defined in this chapter is hereby prohibited, and it shall be unlawful for any person to engage in “public drinking” as defined in this chapter within the limits of the city of Ronan, Montana; and it shall be unlawful for any person to engage in any public display or exhibition of “beer” or “liquor” as defined in this chapter within the city limits of Ronan, Montana.
